Service Awards

Service Award Programs
One measure of a successful company is its ability to retain experienced and knowledgeable employees. Companies with high turnover rates are less likely to satisfy their customers.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report said 24 percent of employees were with their current employer one year or less in January 2022 and the median number of years that wage and salary workers had been with their current employer was 4.1 years. Human Resource professionals are familiar with the struggle to recruit, train, and retain employees.
It’s important to recognize employees who contribute to the success of the company with their knowledge, skills, expertise, and the stability that experienced employees bring to the
workplace. It’s common for employees to receive a years of service award at five year increments. Service awards have an increased value at each higher level.
A growing trend with service awards is to present employees with a symbolic recognition item for the years of service such as a custom lapel pin, crystal award, or plaque that will be a permanent keepsake. In addition, the employee can ‘pick a gift’ from a selection of functional and lifestyle gifts. Be sure to speak words of affirmation that are specific to the person while they are being recognized.
Awards for either length of service or safety achievement may be tax deductible. See IRS Publication 535 for details.

Retirement Gifts
Retirement gifts are a thoughtful way to thank a long-time employee for their years of service to the company. Current employees will also be encouraged by your thoughtfulness.
A few ideas include a personalized clock, plaque, custom framing special items in a shadow box, etched crystal vase, a decorated shirt, etched barware including wine glasses and pint glasses, etched wine or liquor bottles, and more.

Importance of Employee Recognition
It is a well-known fact that customers and prospects evaluate a company based on their experience with its employees.
One of our basic human needs is appreciation. We want to believe we make a difference. Appreciation shows that the efforts are noticed, valued, and contribute to the success of the organization.
Appreciation is good for business too. Studies have shown that employee recognition leads to better morale, higher productivity, less absenteeism and lower turnover. That results in a stronger company.
