VETERANS MONUMENT

Learn more about the Oconto Falls Veterans Monument that recognizes veterans and sponsors on bronze plaques and engraved bricks. The focal point of the monument is a black marble backdrop with five bronze cast military emblems.

OCONTO FALLS VETERANS MONUMENT

The Oconto Falls Veterans Monument was created to honor and remember veterans for the sacrifices they made for our country. The beautiful Oconto Falls Veterans Monument we see today is the result of eight years of planning and fundraising as well as community support. It is built on the hillside overlooking Woodlawn Cemetery where some local veterans are buried. It is also along the Oconto Falls walking trail.

BRONZE CAST MILITARY EMBLEMS

The black granite centerpiece of the 70 foot wide monument features bronze cast military emblems of the five branches of the United States Armed Forces: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

ENGRAVED BRICKS

The walls of the monument are lined with over 450 engraved bricks of living and deceased veterans that served our country.

This monument is public domain, so people can sponsor a brick from anywhere in the country. Bricks can still be ordered by contacting Bob Maloney by email

BRONZE PLAQUES

Generous sponsors are permanently recognized with bronze plaques on the sponsor wall on the left side of the memorial.

Bronze plaques are also mounted on the sponsor wall on the left side of the memorial. Bronze plaques are also attached to the places of the flag poles, benches, planters, and on the fence. Many of the bronze plaques honor veterans while others remember supporters.

BRONZE PLAQUE ON PEDESTAL

The bronze plaque on a metal pedestal is in memory of Marie Magnin. Marie was the originator of the project to honor area veterans including her late husband Chub (Orrie) Magnin who served in the U.S. Army and fought in World War II in the 37th Infantry, 1st Calvary, and 11th Airborne in the South Pacific with an Amphibious Tractor Unit.

She worked tirelessly to make sure her husband and other veterans would never be forgotten for their dedication and sacrifices for our country.

After years of work and fundraising, Marie enlisted the help of her fellow Legion Auxiliary members and the Oconto Falls American Legion Post 302 to push the project forward. Marie died in April 2019 knowing this project was in good hands.
